Coco-nut: Break It Down (For Me!)
Preface drafting:
🎶 “ put me in coach, I’m ready to play, today..”
There I was, a scrawny, benchwarmer focusing on free safety “mimicking.” I was put in to receive the ball on a kickoff, and like “leave it to beaver” the ball “dunced” my helmet and bounced off. I didn’t cry it off that time I don’t think.
Note, moving forward, get on my level. I WILL be quoting and half making up generalities that work for me at the moment. “Flow” is important while “drafting”
From Benchwarmer to Baller: My Embarrassing Kickoff Debut
I was “small" and 85 lbs at my heaviest back then and full of pure nervous energy
* Football practice was my a joke with coach Root.
* The play:
- I stood “alone” on the field, waiting for the ball
- It came soaring towards me...
- And "dunced" off my helmet

Truthfully, it’s now 25 years give or take later. I lasted in football maybe another year if that. I “really” progressed in wrestling. Caught up in cradles, getting my nose smushed into the mat. I would have probably ran away or forfeited most times if dad wasn’t a ball-buster and the head coach of the local mat club.
A year or two later, I was in a serious car accident that nearly killed me so I didn’t have to worry about those inconsistencies much longer. By inconsistencies, I mean by that time I was already in the gym, benching my bodyweight and still small.
These days, I’m still in the gym/ pushing myself to overcome weakness. Talk about imbalanced. For as much iron I throw around these days I should be on the front of every “Squat Heavy” magazine. Yet here I am, sitting in my bedroom surrounded by a push wheelchair, a power chair, 2 freshly used walkers and the pair of freestanding bilateral forearm crutches I invested in a few months ago.
i eat like a horse. I’m into identifying room for improvement and lately I’ve actually been taking advantage of empathy and life actually offering cheat codes and “hacks.” Thinking metacognitive-ly, I’m actually learning to go with the flow. Being hard on yourself doesn’t always provide favorable results!
in the past month, I’ve expanded my network to include a gang of half-imagined superheroes, myself included. I am the horse-headed bodybuilder, Muscle Hero. My two new therapists and trainers go by Bull and Shining Moon.
