- The clean requires a strong and explosive movement, while the jerk requires both strength and coordination.

### Weight Categories

Athletes compete in different weight categories, which helps ensure fair competition. The categories can vary slightly from one Olympic Games to another, but they typically include a range of classes for both men and women.

### Judging and Scoring

- Each athlete has three attempts for each lift (snatch and clean and jerk). The best successful attempt in each lift is recorded.
- The total score is the sum of the best lifts from both events.
- If an athlete fails to complete a lift, it is not counted, and they cannot attempt the same lift again after failing three times.
