It’s not just about racing; it’s about editing the narrative. ##
We all have a voice in our heads narrating our lives. For the adaptive community, society often tries to write a script full of limitations: "You can't go there," "You can't do that," "That obstacle is too high."
At DirectDepositME, we decided it was time to fire the writer and take over the script ourselves.
I’ve recently pivoted the focus of our platform to Narrative Therapy. If you aren't familiar with the term, it’s a powerful psychological approach that views people as separate from their problems. It empowers you to become the expert in your own life and, quite literally, rewrite your story.
The Comic is the Blueprint
This is where Muscle Hero comes in. I’ve been deep in development on the latest comics, but I realized that Muscle Hero isn't just a fictional character—he is a visualization tool.
When we draw Muscle Hero overcoming a blockade, we are creating a visual map for our own brains. We are "seeing through current limitations," just as the mission statement on our new site says. The comic allows us to visualize a version of ourselves that creates "good vibes daily" and refuses to be stopped by physical barriers.
From Storyboard to Spartan Race
Narrative Therapy requires more than just thinking; it requires enacting the new story. You have to live out the plot twist.
That is why we compete.
- The Spartan Race: When we get in the mud, we are physically acting out the scene where the hero faces the impossible and wins.
- The IM ABLE Ruck and Roll: When we ruck alongside our community, we are solidifying the chapter on unity and collective strength.
These events—the recent Spartan race and the Ruck and Roll—are "performance therapy." We are giving a huge jolt to our output and performance (shoutout to LifeWave!) to prove that the narrative has changed.
Fundraising: Helping Others Edit Their Stories
Our mission remains grounded in tangible help. Why? Because sometimes you need better tools to write a better story.
Through our Direct Donations and Equipment Grants, we are fundraising to give other adaptive athletes the "plot devices" they need—whether that's a handcycle, a racing chair, or specialized gear. We want to hand the pen back to them so they can write their own adventure.
Join the Narrative
The site has a new look and a renewed focus. We are here to unite, to break through blockades, and to ensure that everyone has the chance to be the superhero of their own life.
Check out the new layout, read up on the mission, and if you can, help us fund the next chapter for an adaptive athlete in need.
